Bloomingdale's Tufenkian Rugs
The Vision
The overall design concept offers an innovative approach to rug selling. The atmosphere of the retail space not only aims to frame the Tufenkian Rug brand with clear identity, but also to embrace the spirit of selling “Rugs as Art”, rugs as luxury items sold with a commensurate standard of service.
The atmosphere also elicits a memorable, peaceful, calming experience. The color palette and materials evoke the cultural heritage of Armenia and Tibet where the wool for the rugs is sheered and woven. The goal of the environment is to reference the tradition of rug selling with natural materials, yet create a dramatically new context for rug presentation. The design addresses this need to transition from the traditional way of selling rugs in piles to a new concept of selling rugs in lifestyle settings.
